As if the Sea should part

And show a further Sea --

And that -- a further -- and the Three

But a presumption be --

Of Periods of Seas --

Unvisited of Shores --

Themselves the Verge of Seas to be --

Eternity -- is Those --

Emily Dickinson

Gunvor is a Viking name, it means cautious in battle, guarded in conflict, vigilant

in war. Katja is Anglo-Saxon and means pure, untouched, virginal, clear.

These are the names of two girls born in Seattle in the first decade of the twenty-first century to Solveig Refetoff and Klaas Langhout.

The paternal grandparents Ernst Langhout and Nelleke Nix came to Seattle from Friesland, a province in the Netherlands. Maternal grandparents: Samuël Refetoff originated in Bulgaria, Gunvor Thomsen† was born in Denmark, Heather Bendall came from the UK.

This playful, beautiful Luna girl carries a name celebrating the continuation of the joyful mingling of our human tribes.

Ah! what pleasant visions haunt me
As I gaze upon the sea!
All the old romantic legends,

All my dreams, come back to me.

Till my soul is full of longing
For the secret of the sea,
And the heart of the great ocean

Sends a thrilling pulse through me

           Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
